Here are my basic tips when it comes to layering clothes for the Colder Season:

1 / Go from Thinnest Garment to Heaviest Garment

Your topmost layer needs to be the heaviest garment, making the thinnest layer the one worn closest to your skin. As an example, you would be using a long sleeve cotton shirt, followed by a cardigan and on top a jacket, coat or blazer. Add a scarf as an accessory.

2 / Use the right amount of layers

It has been recommended not to put on more than 3 layers; otherwise, you will start looking too bulky. So think about point one already explained above and which type of garments you would choose to pick your 3 layers.

3 / Play with different contrasts and lengths

When it comes to length, make sure the longer piece is the most bottom layer. The fun part comes when you play with different colour contrasts and types of fabrics. Think patterns mixed with block colours or a couple of different types of fabrics together. Try to avoid wearing two pieces of the same type of fabric. Be bold and try new looks you haven’t dared to try before.

4 / Don’t forget to layer the bottom half too

When I talk about your bottom half I’m referring to leggings, pants, jeans, skirts and dresses. Pretty much it works same the same way, the most fitted layer is the first and closest to the skin such as leggings or tights, your other garments become your top layer.

5 / Get creative

I love playing with different combinations. I suggest to grab a dress for example and check out which top you could wear underneath, maybe add some cool leggings and some high boots. Then top it off with a trench coat and a scarf. You can also add a knit to the dress, making it look like a skirt instead, put some tights and ankle boots on and voila another cute look!

There are so many combinations you can play with when it comes to layering clothes, think always contrasts in colour and fabrics plus different lengths and you’ll never run out of outfits to wear for this cold season.
